Learning to bee the best that we can bee!

Houses and Homes

This topic has a historical and geographical theme to it. We begin the topic by looking at differant types of houses, and in particular the houses and features in the local area. We create a large map in our classroom of where all the children live and through this the children gain an understanding of the importance of maps as they begin to use the map in a variaty of activities.

We then look at all the different materials that we need to build a house and their specific features. We experiment with materials to discover which ones are waterproof or not and we even have our own building site in our roleplay area!

Our history work begins with our work on CASTLES! The children begin to identify reasons for why casles developed the way they did and they thoroughly enjoy their visit to Porchester Casle, as do all the staff!
