The Romans

Dressed as Romans at FishbourneThe Romans is a history-based topic. Firstly the children find out what life was like in Britain before the Romans invaded. Drama is used to help them to imagine life in the Roman Army! We look at how the armies were organised and subsequently produce several pieces of writing and drawing. The class hear a version of the story of Boudicca's defeat and discuss which parts are facts based on evidence and which parts are suppositions.

They use photographs and videos to see the ruined city of Fishbourne Roman PalacePompeii which forms a basis for understanding how a typical Roman town was laid out.

The life of a Roman gladiator is a really exciting part of this topic which the children are fascinated to find out about. The final part of the topic is a trip to Fishbourne Roman Palace to experience living in Roman times!
